I've always rated him over Silvagni as the full back of the century. He retired from playing in 1952. He was posthumously awarded the 1948 VFL Life Member Award. Garry Young was an influential player in the Hawthorn Football Club's history, playing 108 games and scoring 164 goals during his time at the club.
